Start with your experience
Look for the scene or detail you remember, then read the short answer and the sections that match your question. Related guides can help you distinguish similar experiences without needing to read the whole dictionary.
If you want to reflect, describe the scene and your feelings in your own words. A prompt is an invitation to notice a possible association, not a requirement to uncover a hidden explanation.
Three kinds of information
The relationship between a claim and its source matters more than the length of the reference list. Our explanations distinguish these uses of information:
- Direct dream research: what participants reported or what researchers measured, with the study’s design and limits.
- Background research: relevant sleep or waking-life findings that provide context but do not test a symbolic meaning.
- Personal reflection: optional editorial questions about your own associations, not conclusions drawn by the researchers.
What the atlas does not establish
No entry provides a scientifically validated universal meaning for its symbol. Dream content does not establish another person’s intentions, predict future events or diagnose a condition.
Spiritual messages, omens and fixed symbolic decoding are outside this edition’s scope. An interpretation that sounds plausible is not automatically a scientific finding.
What the reflection tool does
The free guided exercise uses simple theme matching in your browser to suggest open questions. It uses your own words and does not send dream text to an AI provider. It does not score your mental health or produce a validated assessment.
The separate journal lets you choose what to save. Its encrypted browser storage and backup options are explained before you use them. Search, saved guides and the journal have different privacy implications.
Keep reflection proportionate
You can skip an exercise, stop reading or leave an experience unexplained. The site provides education and reflection, not individual clinical advice or emergency support.
